This beautifully hand crafted blue and white porcelain is an experimental art-deco display of the use of the cobalt pigmentation for an blue & white outcome after firing during the Yuyan period China. It looks to be the peony flowers blossoms but disguised in the wings of a large flying butterfly, which is vibrant in its posture and size; The pigmentation of the iron rich cobalt in ‘heaped and piled’ forms when painted, which is the typical hallmarks of early days Chinese or Yuyan period use of the cobalt for a deep outcome of the blue & white underglaze porcelain productions.
