This exclusively hand crafted earthen ware tea pot looks to be a ‘purple sand’ tea pot of Yixing variety. In careful, detail research and investigation of the characteristics of this type of stone/earthenware products, the traditional characters inscribed on the pot reveals that it is an Yixing teapot, of Jianxu province around 1600-1700 AD. This was fashioned to be a scholar’s possession during Ming period, China.

The artistically sculptured letters of traditional Chinese Characters, reading from top left to the bottom towards right, depict a poem ‘Shang Ju Qui Ming’ meaning ‘An Autumn’s Evening Life in Mountain’ by revered Tang poet, musician, painter and politician Wang Wei, born 761 AD, in Xi An, China, during middle part of the Tang Dynasty. This poem is said to be No 16th of the 300th poems accredited to his name.
