An early Imari porcelains were fired around the 1640s. As Chinese imperial household fell in quarrels and political upheavals, the artisans left China whilst the entire techniques, which had its origins in Korean techniques, to produce porcelains also emigrated. Japan was one place where the porcelain artists had a safe haven. The techniques of Jingdezhen of Jianxi province, that saw the transition from Ming to Quing dynasty, were officially introduced blue & white porcelains showed the characteristics of Fujian Kilns, such as Swatow ware and Dehuwa porcelains, giving the impression of crude but charming effects, in the likes of porcelain painted by the Japanese painter. This bowl shows various distinct characteristics of early days Imari porcelain painting. It is sought after Japanese porcelain item by the collectors including museums around the world.
