Sumo wrestlers were believed to have been originated in Japan during the Nara period (CE 710-794) and has become an essential part Japanese culture. They are also known as Rikishi in Japan. Its history is veiled in mystery and legends. Sumo wrestlers retire in age 30. Their life span is of 60 to 65 years old. They suffer from strokes, diabetes, heart, bone and joint problems. Sumo wrestlers might eat up to 10,000 calories a day. They are attracted by the athleticism, pageantry and traditions of this most Japanese of sports.
